So ever since I started this blog thing a week ago I've been getting angry emails and some grumpy comments for different reasons.
Like, people got mad at me for bashing Dark Knight. Like I'm some kind of wang who doesn't know how to watch a movie correctly. Like I wrote bad stuff about it just to be a jerk and peed on a masterpiece for fun. I wish I loved that movie. Believe me.
People got upset because I typed a really long post about how I screwed up going to the midnight showing. Telling me I write too much with too many words. It was a long story! What was I supposed to do!
When I typed this jokey thing about going out to dinner with a bunch of people I got accused of being a snob who judges people. I just sort of felt the whole thing was a goof. I don't think the person who gets their entree last is a "loser". I'm usually that guy! And it's not like I'm going out to 'dinner parties' all the time by the way. (I guess I typed it all vague like I go to them all the time because I didn't want to offend the people I recently went out with if they decide to read my blog. Apologies to them if I did. I wasn't talking about you.) And no, I'm not secretly rich btw.
Also people don't like this summer blog thing at all. They think the whole site is confusing now and they miss the daily stuff or whatever. Sorry bout that but I just need a little downtime to catch up and this helps.
So I just wanted to say apologies if I've offended you in some way by how I write or what I write or what I'm not doing or whatever. I just type stuff that comes into my head from the things I do and the stuff I see and how I see it. So there.
It's hard for me because I do want this to be a good vibes place and I guess I'll admit it gets to me when people get upset just by coming here. It really is just me sitting in my apartment with my dog so maybe I do go mental from time to time. And it has been all humid lately and I've been sweaty.
I'll try to be more open minded with fun and less "wordy" I guess. Maybe this post was too wordy too?

PS. Yes, I know the Ducky Duck site is all clunky this year!! It's not my fault and I don't know why it's all changed! I complained to them alot. But very much thanks to the people who joined the team!

I want to make a living off creative blogging like you, but just one and I am tapped out for months. How do you make a living anyway? I havent given you any money (I did buy your book though). Freelancing must pay really well. I liked your Dark Knight review, I did not like the Hellboy review about Dark Knight though.
It's hard to believe that people will criticize you for writing what you feel on your own personal website!

This is YOUR site, YOUR opinion, YOUR work, YOUR time and YOUR money to support it. Just say whatever the hell you feel about Dark Knight, chicks with poor math skills, drunk dicks or whatever. You owe NO ONE an explanation for your humor or your opinion. Hell I can't stand the constant Roscoe talk on your site. I also hate the time it takes to get new toons. I have been on your site for the past 3 years or so, and must say I also am kinda disappointed about what it has become. You used to be the witty cartoon creator that made me laugh even when my day may have not been positive. But I dunno, now I haven't seen one new cartoon in a good while. Your site has just become one of those blogs in a never ending sea of bloggieness. Is it possible that you can go back to what made your site good in the first place?
Only opinion that really matters is that of the person paying the bandwidth bill!!!!

This is such BS. I cannot understand why people don't realize that when you were cranking out cartoons for your site, you were LAID OFF!! Now, you have a job. Which brings me to another thing I cannot understand: Why people think freelancing isn't a REAL job. WTF? A previous post said it best, "A person can be smart, but people are idiots."
Fuck 'em todd! I like it and I know I'm not alone. Try not to let this recent outburst of criticism change your writing. I've found that sometimes your blogs have somewhat of a constricted tone, as if you are typing to please and not to express. These wordy blogs have been a great change from that!
You are providing entertainment for us, at no cost. I believe you can create your site however you like. I enjoy your creativity. No one is forcing anyone to go to your site.

Todd, I've been coming to your site almost since you started it. It's great. Has it changed? Sure. Everything evolves. Do you post long blogs? Sure. But they aren't ridiculously long. Not like you are posting novels. If people don't have the attention span to finish one of your blogs that isn't your fault. You have something to say and if that takes more than one paragraph to convey then so be it. I'm not sure what people are expecting from your site but I'm never disappointed. Keep up the good work Todd. Maybe you'll weed some of the viewers out and be left with those that truly appreciate your site for what it is...entertainment.

I can certainly understand that you feel under attack. I don't get those attacky people but, whatever. I agree with what the majority of people said: it is your blog/website, write whatever you want. Have faith! Bee positive! To those people who complain that you are too wordy; they are not going to get far in life if they can not read beyond the first few sentences of anything. No, being wordy is good. It explores your ability as a writer. Only by practice (at writing) will you grow. And I think you are a very good writer. You are an entertainer in so many areas: an animation cartoonist, a contest provider, a writer, a daily and weekly content provider, a photographer, an artist... you do it all, tOdd!
I wanted to share with you the four types of people who write to internet celebrities like Odd tOdd.
The detestable jerks:
These people are known as trolls. They only provide negative feedback to get an emotional rise out of you. This category of person can be wholly and completely ignored since you already know their shtick.
The jerk trying to be helpful:
This type of jerk provides mostly negative feedback like: "you should have done this" or "you should have done that." Basically they are trashing your site in the name of helpfulness. They lack imagination of their own to see why what you actually wrote is actually funny.
The indifferent jerk:
These people don't care what happens to you either way. They consider it all entertainment, good or bad. They are very unlikely to do anything, including email you.
The true fan:
These people enjoy your site the most, but probably write in the least. When you changed your format to the blog, they said nothing. Instead, all you got was negative feedback from the other jerks. Therefore you were tricked into thinking that no one liked your new site. But then the true fans come. They stick up for you. They encourage you to continue. They remind you why people like your site. They are the people who have written the highest percentage of posts on this blog entry. These are the people you are doing it for, tOdd, the people who love you!

I agree with what Tee said, however...all of your movie reviews suck. They always have for far too many reasons to go into here, but I avoid reading the movie reviews and focus on other aspects of the site.
As for the blog, I didn't like it last time you went to this format but I didn't complain. I don't like that you did it again, but I'm not complaining still. It's your site, you do what you want with it. As for me, I'll catch you when the summer is over and you go back to using the old format.
I like the long posts. I like the short ones too. Do what you want, and don't let a few whiners ruin it for you!

Seems like everyone is a little over sensitive these days. Not much fun monay left over. Kinda like working and not having any fun monay is a double kick in the bubble gums. I could see not having any fun monay when your not working. But living the same life style and then having to go to work sux it big time.

i thought the thing about the dinner party personalities was hilarious... most of us can recognize a verbal "caricature" when we see one... and i know that i have been a few of those people you described from time to time...
if my friend was the "no entree loser", i would totally laugh at him (with a Nelson quote from Simpsons... "ha-ha!")... in a friendly way, of course... and i would expect my friends to do the same to me.
Also... i haven't seen Dark Knight yet, but i did enjoy your thorough review... i can't believe people think your posts are too wordy!... it takes less than a minute or two to read your posts... it's not like you are writing a frickin' novel about everything... are people's attention spans that short these days?

I would like to say I have been coming to your site for a good five years now, it has been my home page for most of those years. but...
Lately (within the last year or two) it has become more about YOU, which is coool... but what I'm saying is I miss Odd Todd, I miss the cartoon YOU, I think things like "whats happening" and "Roscoe Cam" have made things too personal. But please take these comments with a grain of salt, as everyone else has said it is YOUR site. But I think you also need to remember why you made the site in the first place... and maybe that reason has changed, which is sad to me.
Anyway Todd, Good vibes to you and Roscoe, I will continue to visit your site everyday until you shut it down.

Why would someone read something and then complain about it? Are they forced to read everything you write? Is there a draft here I am not aware of? If you don't want to read my comment, don't read it. If I don't want to read a post that looks like something I may not want to read, I won't read it. That said, I usually get a good laugh from your posts, Todd. And that is why I choose to read them. I say well done. To me your site is a highlight during dreary days of working.
PS. If you want my job you can have it. I'm about 3 minutes from walking out, changing into a blue robe and eating fudge stripes for about 6 months.

You can write about phonebooks and make it interesting...(wait a minute, didn't you do that already??) I like the bloggy blog. There. It's absolutely the troof that Dark Knight was too long, sagged just about anytime Joker wasn't on the screen, and left way too many things up in the air. i love Maggie normally, but she only added "not Katie Holmes" to the experience. You mentioned the action was close-in and hard to track. That was even an improvement from the previous Batman, which seemed to use fist-mounted cameras. (Seriously, go back and watch the mountain ninjas get it on--shaky, blurry stuff.) Little details like the silly voiced car-destructo sequence are symptomatic of the whole thing. Not any sort of award winner.
I'm also with you on Hancock, which tried to mush together two ideas like fancy ice cream parlors do those creations on cold marble slabs. Unfortunately, they mushed up the flavors "sorta sorbet" and "forgettable fudge." And at the end, everyone's all happy and living normally again? Whaaaa? (Don't worry square western world, even the awesomest black superstar can't make off with your blonde ladies!)
Lest I sound like a negative Nancy, I hear the Bowery's New Museum is cool, so will bus down to check it out this weekend. Go NYC culture.
The Dark Knight review and the thing about the restaurant totally made my week, as it did many others I'm sure. Don't be guided by the people who don't get your humor Todd . . . they're idiots. If you cater to them, you'll end up with nothing but idiots as fans.

I haven't seen the DARK KNIGHT yet, but I agree with Odd Todd....it SUCKED.
Aww, tOdd, we still love you, even the critic at the L.A. Times commented on how any critics who disliked Dark Knight got spammed. As for using Blogger, I don't understand why you don't just use it all the time (and have ads for that matter). Don't be a martyr! Make some money! (btw, your review of I Am Legend is still my favorite)
