Hi All,
What really gets me is
the hypocrisy of the people over here in the UK who call themselves
dog lovers and are members of the British Kennel Club and who all
attended Crufts Dog show this weekend.
What kind of hypocrisy
is this I hear you ask - its just a harmless beauty pageant for dogs
-and we all love dogs don't we?
Well, having seen a
beautiful beagle come very close to being the Supreme Champion of
Crufts this year I will explain my annoyance. The point of the
breed criteria for dogs is that their shape, coat and demeanour is
usually related to their former roles as working dogs - beagles once
worked as hunting hounds ( I am not a fan of hunting wild animals to
their deaths either but that's another annoyance I wont bore you
with) and this is what their bodyshape, movement and personality is
judged on.
My annoyance is that
thousands of beagles are still used as a "working breed" but now
their new job is to sit still and take injection after injection of
poisons or drugs to ensure that the big drug companies don't get a
law suit if their new pesticide turns out to kill more than the
insects it's intended to kill. So we have a dog which if the Kennel
Club of the UK and world wide Kennel Clubs really wanted to judge
the breed would have to re-classify the breed requirements to the
"work" that this poor innocent creature now has to endure - being
passive enough to allow a low paid animal technician in a animal
test laboratory such as, Hunting Life Sciences to test harmful
chemicals and products such as household cleaners here in the UK and
the USA.
Hundreds of people adore
beagles for the wonderful pets that they are, but you never hear the
breed clubs ever a come out and voice their sadness and disgust at
the modern day existence of thousands of these beautiful animals
whom many of us share our lives & even our beds with - this thought
has really got to me today.
So Yep I am annoyed - I
am annoyed at the fact that we humans are so very good at ignoring
the whole picture and painting the world as such a rosy place when
somewhere a few hundred miles away from the very show ring that a
beautiful pedigree pooch is being celebrated for its breed
perfection -its cousins, usually 6 month old beagle puppies are
being forced to tolerate the pain and daily suffering of being
forced fed poison and having blood taken from them by low paid lab
assistants. These sad victims of human society have to endure the
same thing for every day of the week until the poison its being fed
eventually kills them. They don't get names like, Champion lord
Fitzwilliam the 6th - Nope these beagles, who no one wants to
speakout about dont even get a name - they are given numbers
tattooed into their little ears
Tests on beagles are
more cost effective for the profits of corporations - but haven't
been proved to be that good for human health. Profits above human
health and the welfare of animals we love as beloved companions.
Please don't think I am
against science or medical advances, but there are more effective
tests than tests on animals but drug companies dont use them because
they like to cut corners for profits - thalidomide victims are
evidence of the inaccuracy of tests upon live animals.
Sorry to bring up such a
miserable subject - but you did ask what annoyed me today and its
doggy hypocrites.
Best Wishes and Good
luck to everyone who loves this site - long live Frog, Lobster, Mep
& Elf-up.

I must be in the minority, but
Widescreen d.v.d.s annoy the crap out of me!!!
I was gonna say I hate them, but
that`s a little too strong. Besides, this is Monday`s annoyances,
not Monday`s crisises.
What bugs me the most is, you
almost can`t find fullscreen versions of newer movies anymore!!
If they would just give me a
choice, that would be fine, but it`s more like widescreen or
nothing! I paid for my whole t.v. screen. I want to see it all! Not
waste an inch or two on the top and bottom! I`ve heard moviegeeks
say the picture includes more things to the left and right, that you
don`t see in Fullscreen, and it`s more like the original theater
version. WHATEVER!!! I just don`t miss what I don`t see on the
sides, and on my closer to square t.v. screen, I want to fill the
whole space up, not look at a scrunched down rectangle!
It feels to me like a push to get
people to buy the mega big, more rectangular new t.v.s!! I like mine
just fine, it`s not very old and it was a price i can afford! I
guess if I went into debt to get one of today`s sets, the movies
would look better on it. They do on the ones I`ve watched, but
contrary to the popular media opinion, not all Americans want to go
into debt to "keep up with the Jones`s"!
O.K. Thanks for a place to vent.
I feel better now. I do greatly appreciate that this is an annoyance
for me, instead of wondering where my next meal was going to come
from, or where I was going to sleep tonight, or a million other
things that an unimaginable number of people on this planet have to
deal with on a daily basis! We are an incredibly spoiled nation and
I just don`t think enough of us realize that. Peace and good Vibes!
ELMO
