Here is my BFH story:
I started a new job in May, an entry level
position for which I wasn't qualified, but was promised on the job
training for. Okay fine, I liked the manager, the position was way over
my head but I'm a fast learner. All good.
2 weeks after my first day the lady who hired me
quits and leaves. No two week notice, nothing.
My new boss is Cruella Deville in human form. And!
They gave me job duties that are WAY outside my experience. Like 10
years of experience past me. without an increase in pay of course.
Cruella's this dragon lady in her 60's who refuses to
retire, and she's been with the company for decades. She's the highest
manager in the place now, which she flauts at every opportunity. We're an
international company and the CEO shows up for two weeks a years and
surprise, she's Miss nice those two weeks and then goes back to being
complete bitch as soon as he leaves.
Basically my job is to buy stuff. So in July I took
some numbers from the sales guru guy and used those to buy my stuff. Sounds
simple, right? well two weeks after I place my orders I get a nasty email
asking why I "Was so stupid I couldn't figure basic math and order the right
quantities"
So I asked sales guru guy to look over everything I
did to make sure I did it right. Sales guru guy writes back "No you're
right, I think I sent the wrong numbers to Cruella". Okay, so I sent a
reply to Cruella telling her I was confused and I got confirmation that my
numbers were right from sales guru guy. Big mistake. You do NOT tell
Cruella that she could be wrong.
Cruella stomped over to sales guru and demanded an
answer. Guess what? Sales guru guy told Cruella I was making it up. Great!!
So even though I have this email from sales guru guy saying "You're right"
and gave copies to everyone, I still got written up and told I would be
fired if I didn't stop making mistakes. This was before my 90 days were up!
Since then she has made it her personal mission to get
me to quit. She's asked me to stay till late at night to do meaningless work
that 'couldn't wait'. Ditto with weekend work. Every time I tranpose a
number she copies twelve other people on my mistakes and threatens to fire
me if I don't stop messing up. She has told me I am not allowed to send any
email without her express approval first, and she has made sure I know she
has access to my email to double check me.
Our company wide IM system isn't something we can log
out of, when you're on the computer you're logged in. When the people in our
corporate headquarters kept sending me information over IM instead of email,
where she could be copied, she had my IM access removed. Oh and she copied
those same 12 people on the email to human resources about removing my IM.
Making everyone think I was abusing it when I was actually begging the
people to send emails.
On a trip to our corporate office she told the CEO and
another high-level lady that I was responsible for all the bad order
numbers, dating back to January! The corporate office lady sent me an email
with a "Just be warned...you wouldn't believe what she just said" and of
course I had to delete it immediately before Cruella read the email, and I
couldn't reply to defend myself.
I've been sending our resumes and applications like
crazy, and I'm hoping someone, anyone! calls soon. I really don't want to
quit before I have another job but she's making me miserable!

Hello, Odd Todd
Yeah, my last boss at the job I currently have was the boss from hell.
We'll call him "a-hole", because that was just exactly what he was! He was a
perfectionist, which is the worst kind of boss that anyone can have, and for
toppers, he would get all the glory when us operators did all the damned work!
This one time about 10 years ago, I screwed up a job that we ran on the system.
When he found out what had happened, he came storming into the computer room and
started raving and ranting so loud that some folks said they could hear him all
the way across the hall. Needless to say, there were quite a few people
standing outside the computer room, watching this whole scene, just to make sure
that someone didn't kill this jerk, which, looking back, we would have all been
better off if we had killed him and saved us 10 years of headaches. He was
always on my ass for the smallest and stupidest things, like one day I came into
work looking rather sloppy, unshaven, dirty shirt, etc. Then, another time, he
bitched because on the evening shift, he KNEW that the operators were leaving
early, even though when we signed out, we always wrote "10:00" in the book at
the front desk. I blew up at him that day and said "if you want to keep closer
track of us, why in hell don't you get a goddamned time clock for us to punch in
and out on?" He says: "Well, jumpin JC, you sure are sensitive about things!"
I said "Yeah, asshole, it takes one to know one!" He just turned on his heel,
walked out the door, and didn't show his face in the computer room again.
Well, about a year-and-a-half ago, "Asshole" moved on to another department in
our organization to terrorize the help desk crew. When he announced that he was
making this move, I just busted out singing "Praise God from whom all blessings
flow!" The look on his face was worth a thousand words! It was a big relief to
us all when he left our department and we all had a big party to celebrate, sans
"Asshole".

Hi, I wish my story is shorter than all of you people.
I didnt get out yet so I had a lot of bad experiences with this one. I
joined the small company of the COO from another bigger company. When me and
my colleague joined at around the same time, no one is working there. First
month into the work, he started shouting at us, scolded us and called us
lazy. No one dares to make any decisions around there. If it goes wrong, we
are heavily scolded in the open office. If it does turn out not right, he's
not happy about being "out won". There's a little bright side, why people
still stayed for a little while is because he also shits crap from his mouth
like saying he's "pointing out our mistakes for our own good" , reminds us
to "go for our lunch" and "go home after office hours to take care of our
personal life". However, being the COO somewhere else, he turns up at our
office during lunch time and after office hours. Everybody has to work these
times with him.
One day in the second month I worked, I didnt have
lunch (as usual) and went out to get a coffee. He called (he always calls at
that time because he's too busy somewhere else and everyone has to come
early as well as skew their time to work late), and hearing the background
noise, I told him I'm getting a coffee. I was thinking nice boss in this
aspect when he started saying " take your time, get your coffee, its a good
break". But he turned up in the office in a few minutes and blew his top (at
all of us!) over something else my colleague has done. He shouted at me and
said, " you think life is like this, going to get your coffee. you have to
work hard...." blah blah blah...
I just over hear him over the phone talking to another
of our colleague overseas, who willingly works for him in the hope that
he'll learn some tricks of the trade and to establish some good business. He
is also pissed off by asshole boss. I constantly hear asshole boss shout, "
Please(<-- i wonder why) dont be upset, but I am observing you and coaching
you" "What is my ultimate objective? --- to Groom you (hahaha!!!)." " I am
the judge here and I observe" Hey, this guy is working his ass off and
pulling lots of strings for him in his country and with influential people,
working behind the scenes to make things happen. And asshole boss is telling
him he's not doing enough.
Over a conference call, he said, "Please (<--- again i
wonder why) dont be upset, but I observe that all of us lack discipline",
when everyone is working their ass off to please him.
I was suffering under him so much I started to binge
on food. My weight went up 5 Kg over 2-3 months. Every one is blaming me
that I didnt listen to their advice not to join this small company and with
some new job scope. But the root of the problem is that I have a BULLY for a
boss.
Later I found out that this company has a 100%
turnover (meaning how many people left over how many employed) every year.
I started realising my mistake, I was hoping too much
to achieve when it's never gonna be appreciated. I am reading a book called
"Bully at Work" and eveything sounds too familiar.
I am looking for a job now, but it's a bit tough for
my profession and field of work.
Now, I go back on the dot of time at 6pm and stayed
out the full hour at lunch. I dont pick up phones calls that comes in at
10pm or 12 am anymore (after 6pm is my own time). He used to call to make us
do work which he forgot to tell us durign the day or for us to assist his
late night work like sending him some emails or documents.

Oh, there are too many things I can write and
there's one more I'll like to add:
I tried to quit 2 months after I joined with the
reasons that this job is not suitable for me. He convinced me to stay for
reasons that I should stay for my own good to make full use of my "talents"
(which one????) and he wants to Groom me to take care of the whole business
blah blah blah....
If i had left, he will have a lot of trouble
convincing real good people to join. Even if they did join, they'll be too
intelligent to stay more than a year anyway. His style is plainly to keep
telling them that they have a talent and he wants to groom them. He advised
them to work very hard and he'll take care of their career path (?) and that
they should bring out their leadership/managerial/executive/organisational
skills....blah blah blah...If I had been real intelligient, I wouldnt have
listened to his crap and checked the credibility of the company image he
portrayed first. I wouldnt have left my last promising job in a big MNC for
this one.
