Painting A La Mode
So the other weekend I finally got around to painting my middle room. Psyched! And fortunately for me I was smart enough to do the job with a girl friend who knows how to paint-- plus she prevented me from picking a not so great color like last time. :-( When she asked what color I wanted to paint the room (besides poopy) and I said, 'How bout blue! Like a big kapow kind of blue?' And she'd was like, 'I really don't think you'll want a big blue kapow every time you walk into a room...' Hmm...
Anyway, we headed to the hardware store and I picked out a nice color paint. Benjamin Moore 'A La Mode'
Sort of light but with like a grey tan tone to it sorta? Ice creamy or whatever. Fine. We tape and spackle and stuff to tape and spackle up the room and started in on painting. I gotta admit painting was kinda fun! It felt good to finally be painting this room that had dirty walls and cracks and stuff in it. We're painting away and all of a sudden she says, 'Hey... is this going pink?' I was like, 'Is what going pink? What's pink?' She was like, 'The walls... Are they looking kind of... pink?' I was like, 'No! It's not pink! It's A La Mode! Benjamin Moore A La Mode!!!'
I took a double take and in the right light it was definitely catching some pink! I was like, 'Mofo Benjamin Moore liars! This ain't no A La Mode! It's A La Pink!' She tried to make me feel better by telling me it 'just might be drying that way...' Just might be drying that way!? We finished it up and I blocked out the fact that the color might be pinkish. I was too happy with paint being on the walls to let it throw me. Plus, it obviously was just an optical illusion we were both experiencing. As I didn't buy pink paint. I just accepted that maybe it was barely near unnoticeably sorta pink...
But the other day though a friend of mine stopped over and I showed off the fact that I painted. First thing he said was, 'Oh! Sort of... pink...' I was like, 'It is not pink! It is A La Mode! Benjamin Moore A La Mode!!' And when I showed my parents over webcam on Skype my Dad said, 'Is it like pink?!' I was like, 'No! It is A La Mode! That must just be the webcam or something...'
I've come to accept the fact that in the right light sometimes this room is definitely pinkish. At certain times of the day or if the overhead light is on or whatever. But othertimes it doesn't look pink at all. It's kind of hard to place. In the morning I'll be like, 'There's no pink here.' Then by noon I'm like, 'Holy smokes! This room is f'in all pinked out like Pinky Tuscadero's bedroom...'
It depends! I kind of like it anyway so whatever! It's soothing! Keeps the color interesting too! Sometimes sometimes not!
See what I mean?
