Going All-In on a New Show

So a while ago I posted something about putting parental blocks on my own TV for channels that I shouldn't be watching. I wanted to put some control over myself to not just zone out  junk channels-- and I felt if I physically limited my choices then I wouldn't get trapped watching World's Greatest Police Chases for an hour or whatever. My brain is mushy enough without watering it down further. But it's sort of no longer necessary because it does feel like there's nothing to watch on the TV right now. Nothing is grabbing at me.

Until American Idol returns there's nothing I get truly excited about. Yeah, I watch the Office but that can sit in Tivo for a few days before I get around to it. There's a few old standbys that I still keep in the rotation. But in terms of new shows the only thing I've picked up has been Celeb Rehab 2. And that has been fading ever since they untweaked Busey's brain with some drugs. I cancelled HBO until True Blood returns (and not even sure if that show has enough grab for me to re-subscribe). On top of it, all cable news shows have lost spice since Obama is in office. So that whole chunk of TV filler is gone too.

I've decided that I need a new show. And I apparently need to backtrack to find it. A show that people swear by that I've never seen before and feel stupid sometimes for never have seen. And I'm prepared to go all in on whatever show this is. Netflix it up season by season on DVD and sit here like a lumpy shmuck through the holidays for hours on end-- finally seeing what all the jibberjabber is about.  It's a fairly large commitment so I want to take it relatively seriously. I've broken it down to five possibilities and I'd appreciate a vote here to let me know which really is the one to go with. I've added my built-in pros and cons.

-----------------------------------------

Lost

Pros: It feels like it's got a nice healthy weirdness factor.

Cons: I'm scared in the end-- it'll end up nowhere. Like X-Files.

The Wire

Pros: Seems like a very different kind of show and I know the least about it.

Cons: Strikes me as not alot of fun and maybe would get too heavy.

Dexter

Pros: I like killers and stuff so this has built in appeal. Plus it seems least bandwagonny.

Cons: Fear of repetition. Like House. (Again with the curing? Again with the killing?)

24

Pros: Has the most action of all the choices.

Cons: The 24 show swearby people seem the most angry about me not watching it.

Battlestar Galactica

Pros: I'm starved for new good sci-fi.

Cons: I'm usually disappointed in sci-fi because it's not gritty enough.

Weeds

Pros: I've actually seen this show a couple times and liked it.

Cons: I don't know anyone personally who is into it so it cuts the conversation factor.

Mad Men

Pros: I guess it seems coolio with the chick sitting on dudes lap or whatever.

Cons: Maybe too coolio for schoolio, foolio?

----------------------------------------

So that's that. That's where I'm at. Whatever wins here I'll go all-in on. I can be happy with any of these shows.

Remember this isn't about which show you love the most. It's about which show you think I'd love the most. It's all about me!
