Hi Todd,

I've been a fan of your site for quite some time -- before you got Roscoe, anyway. My brother sent me a link to a few "What's Happening" items, and I thought that many were really fun and interesting. I particularly liked the animal-related ones, and was thrilled when you got Roscoe. Your reports on him have been REALLY funny -- and I say this as the editor of a dog magazine. I've thought about writing to you many times to give you some unsolicited dog-related advice, but the fact is, I'm usually too busy to give my own readers very much solicited advice, so I just never did.

However, I'm going to put you on our comp list for a subscription to my mag, The Whole Dog Journal (www.whole-dog-journal.com), which is a subscriber-supported (no advertising), Consumer Reports-style publication. We give our readers info they can put to immediate use with their dogs; we don't publish profiles, "issue" pieces (stories about animal sanctuaries or rescuing street dogs in Mexico, etc.), fiction, poems, cartoons, or paens to deceased dogs. We discuss nutrition (and review commerical foods), positive training (we do NOT discuss punishment-based training), and holistic dog care, which encompasses conventional veterinary medicine as well as alternative and complementary medicine. I'm hoping this will make up for all the enjoyment you've given me, and all the advice you've hinted you might want regarding Roscoe but I didn't give.

By the way, you're doing a great job with him. And you're right never to leave him tied out in front of businesses.

Would it be okay to offer a bit of unsolicited criticism?

(If so, read on. If not, stop reading here.)

When you first introduced the "comments" feature on the daily "What's Happening," I found them somewhat amusing. I still find some of them amusing. But the sick and twisted potty mouths who just want to say foul things in a public forum -- I'm not sure you're doing the world any good, giving them a place to publish.

I didn't realize how bummed out I was about them, until I recently sent one of my writers (a professional trainer and well-known book author on the topic of positive training) a link to one of the "What's Happening" items, the one about accidentally hitting yourself in the face with the (safely closed) poop bag. I laughed very hard when I read it and wanted to share it; something like this has happened to every dog owner (at least the responsible ones who pick up poo). She read it, found it funny, but wrote back, "What's up with the sicko comments?" She was, I think, appalled and a little taken aback that I would send her a link with comments like that on it. I apologized and wrote back that I tried to take care NOT to read the comments.

But the fact is...why have them? Are they adding to the site traffic, or some other benefit? If so, would you consider blocking the grossest ones? (Or are you already, and I didn't notice?)

Anyway, hi, hello, and when you get Whole Dog Journal in the mail, you'll know what's up. I'll send you a few to start; then they'll come straight from the publisher.

Hey Todd.

Check out your room with Benjamin Moore color 1538.  Pretty cool, eh?  If you want, I can do any color you need - just take a pic of the room!

Also, where are my punk rock brownies?!?

Take care,
Ken

Wow, I feel like a heel, I didn ’t even think of poor Deng.  I did Google the city he is in and where the earthquakes are, and they are about 1000 miles apart.  I wouldn ’ t think that he would have been a part of them, but lets hope for the best.  Keep us posted when you hear from him!

Hey Todd,

I saw a picture of someone in an animal suit today and was reminded of this video (when did animal suits become so creepy?)  You might have seen it, but even so it’s worth revisiting.  The British government thought they’d attract a new generation of tourists to the lake country if they made Wordsworth more “accessible” with campaigns like this.

Check It!

This is the last round guys! If you never voted for me, now would be a totally awesome time to do so!

Please???

http://largeassmovieblogs.blogspot.com/2008/05/sirens-of-lambs-final-round-cherry.html

I'll sweeten the deal. If you vote for me, and I win, I'll give anyone who voted for me a movie from my collection, any movie, for free, if you offer proof that you did (ex: screen cap).

Desperate? Maybe, but why not?

Thanks!
-Jason

There was a typo in my first email. I forgot to add on that I was joking about the free DVD thing. I apologize for any confusion.

I'm not sure if you had posted this guy's webpage before or not - so my apologies if I'm way behind and whatnot...

I read an article in the local paper about this coolio dude (well, I think coolio) that goes around correcting grammar and spelling on signs and stuff.  I checked out his webpage and thought it was pretty neat.  Since there is often a bunch of comments back and forth from your readers/posters regarding grammar and spelling, I thought everyone may enjoy it.

The name of his thingy or whatever is the Typo Eradication Advancement League (TEAL).  Here's the web address.  www.jeffdeck.com/teal/

Hope Roscoe is doing well.  Miss seeing pictures of him.

Any word?  Does he live near the earthquake region?  My thoughts are with them.

Thanks,

Hey, long time no see, how about a flash from the past? I recently took over the Flashforward conference and wanted to see if you'd be interested in coming out to SF in August and talking about the wonders of Flash?

Hope you're doing well and look forward to catching up.

Our daughter, Hanna Goldstein, was chosen as one of ten finalists in the
4th through 6th grade category in a nation-wide Google art competition
called Doodle4Google. Beginning today, all of the winning "doodles" are
posted on the Google website and the public can vote for which one they
like the best. Voting ends on May 18th. Please join us in supporting Hanna
and make sure to vote for her doodle called "Lending a Helping Hand." Next
week, Google is flying us out to California for an award ceremony where the
top 4 doodles will be announced, followed by a grand prize winner. This is
a major accomplishment for Hanna, as there were thousands of entries across
the entire country. We hope you will send this along to your family and
friends and spread the word to vote for Hanna Goldstein's "Lending a
Helping Hand" (4th -6th grade category/Region 2).

Thank you for helping us get the word out.

The following is a link to the voting page. You will need to go into the
4th-6th grade category and Region 2 to see Hanna's entry.
