Hi Todd,
Here is a fun thing to do for
St. Patrick's day.
Use your favorite white cake
base and bake some cupcakes.
Let them cool
for 15 minutes and poke holes in them with a straw.
Take them out of
the pans and put them on a cooling rack.
Place a cookie
sheet under the rack
Mix one small
box of lime jell-o with one cup of boiling water.
Pour the Jell-O
over the holes with a small spoon.
Try not to get
jell-o on the outside of the cupcakes.
Chill in the fridge for 30
minutes.
I used a very
wide straw to make a bigger hole in the center.
Cut a sour gummy
worm in half and place it in the hole. (This part is
just for fun, but not necessary).
For the hats:
Pour a jar of green sugar
crystals in a bowl.
Using a sucker
stick or a skewer, dip a large marshmallow in melted
white chocolate. Tap the excess off.
Spoon the sugar
all over the marshmallow. Find somewhere to stick
these while they dry.
I used a piece
of styrofoam.
When they dry,
use black icing to draw a line around the hat and a
yellow confetti star for the buckle.
Frost the
cupcakes in a contrasting color and draw a circle of
green frosting around the cupcake for the rim.
Dip the green
circle part of the cupcake in the green sugar.
Remove stick
from marshmallow and add to the cupcake.
For the pots of gold:
I used green sugar because I
didn't have black. Follow the same instructions for
dipping and applying the sugar.
Use black icing
to draw the handle and yellow icing to attached the
mini M & M's. I only had skittles on hand.
A lot of steps, but the end
result is worth it. I love the vibrant color of the
green sugar.
